Xanax Drug Interactions (Alprazolam)

Patients who are taking Xanax should always be aware of possible drug interactions that may occur, whether they are associated with prescription or OTC drugs.

Acid Reducers Medications that reduce the amount of acid in the stomach may prevent Xanax from being absorbed into the bloodstream properly, thereby greatly reducing the concentration of the drug in patients’ systems. In most cases, the dosages of these medications will be lowered in order to prevent severe interactions and side effects. Patients should be sure to mention all of the medications they take to their pharmacists in order to monitor for potential issues. Xanax and Tylenol Can You Mix Xanax and Tylenol?

The following provides an overview of both Xanax and Tylenol on their own, as well as what you should know about taking them together.

While many over-the-counter drugs are considered generally safe, you should always be aware of their risks and side effects, just as you would be with a prescription drug. There is an unfortunate misconception that a lot of people have about over-the-counter drugs, which is that they’re inherently safe.

Doing this can increase your risk of experiencing respiratory depression and having an overdose. However, if you were to mix Xanax and Tylenol or acetaminophen combined with another substance, such as an opioid, then it can be very dangerous.

The following provides an overview of both Xanax and Tylenol on their own, as well as what you should know about taking them together.

Tylenol comes on its own, and it’s also combined with many other medicines, such as Sudafed and Nyquil.

Your browser does not support iframes.

If you mix Xanax and Tylenol in the form of something like Nyquil or another medication that could be a sedative, this can also be risky as well, because it can cause over-sedation.

In these cases, the Tylenol is mixed with an opioid to treat more severe pain.

Don't do this !!

I was so overtired yesterday evening that it brought on a panic attack.. so I took a half tablet of Xanax half mg.. and felt better.. then took a nice long warm shower, put on my most comfy night shirt and went on to bed could not fall asleep.. so The liver damage issue is from taking too much acetaminophen.

But the xanax makes me sleepy on it's own after about an hour. Lesson learned. Carolyn. so I should just have gone on to bed.

Read the small print, buy your OTC meds separay and know what it is that you are taking!. Get rid of the Tylenol PM and instead buy plain tylenol and plain diphenhydramine, which is available as both allergy med as 25 mg dosage (Benedryl is one name, also generic) and sleep aids (also generic) which is 50 mg dosage. I really dislike combination medications, just for this reason.

With those little doses, you may be more sensitive to the combination so I know you'll be more careful in the future, or ask your doctor if the two are appropriate for you given the experience you had last night.
